Achieve Arts is fast becoming one of the top Speech and Drama Schools for children and young adults in North London. With their 100% success rate in LAMDA Examinations and a very busy young performers agency attached to their school, we caught up with the two co-founders Karen Kiely and Pamela Collins to find out more.

Ladies, How are your classes going in Muswell Hill?

Karen: They are going great! We launched our Muswell Hill classes in September and they are thriving. We run our sessions on a Tuesday after school at the beautiful ‘Common House Studio’ at Woodside Square. The atmosphere in the classes is electric as we have a mixture of ages coming through the door. Our 4pm class is the Introductory Level for our little actors 4-6 year olds, the 5pm class is the Foundation level for 7-9 year olds and the 6:15pm class is the Intermediate session for our 10+ performers.

Explain what you do at Achieve Arts Speech and Drama School?

Pamela: So at Achieve Arts we teach the LAMDA syllabus in a really fun way. In every class, our students are up on their feet developing confidence, solo speaking skills, improvisation techniques, characterisation and performance skills. We work towards LAMDA Examinations and our students work on Poems, Monologues, Duologues, Musical Theatre Repertoire and they work on Public Speaking Speeches.

Achieve Arts are registered as a private centre so we are very lucky that the LAMDA Examiners come to our studios so our students can enter their graded accredited exams.

What ages do you cater for?

Karen: We start from age 4 and we go up to age 16. Working with the different age groups is fabulous as you can see the progression and development of each student every week, whether it is working on a poem with our 4 and 5 year olds or working on a medal Grade with our 15 year olds.

Where do you run your other classes and tell us about your online sessions too? It sounds very busy.

Pamela: Our weekly face to face classes are in Muswell Hill, Crouch End, Hampstead Garden Suburb, Tufnell Park and Pinner. We also run online 1-1 sessions five nights a week via zoom. These online sessions are for 30 minutes 1-1 coaching and we have students working on the LAMDA Acting Syllabus, Verse & Prose, Public Speaking and Singing. The parent and student chooses which syllabus they want to work on.

Tell us about the Achieve Arts Agency for Young Performers?

Karen: We set up the Achieve Arts Agency to give our students professional opportunities in Theatre, Television and Film. We only represent our students so therefore we know what roles they would suit. It’s very exciting as our students are being seen for the top shows and for big Television projects. It takes a lot of commitment going to auditions and putting yourself out there , so the agency isn’t for every student, only for those who wish to go down the professional route.

Can new students book a free trial for January?

Pamela: Yes absolutely! To book your child a free trial , go to our website www.achievearts.co.uk, scroll along the top of the homepage to venues and click your nearest class to try. You can always email info@achievearts.co.uk if you have any queries also.
