The impact of school closures is reflected in our daily conversations with parents at the end of their tether, feeling unsupported and out of their depth. An unprecedented number feel concerned about their children’s wellbeing and educational progress, very aware that they have landmark exams or assessments later this year.

How can Mentor Help?

Often some targeted advice and a sympathetic voice can do the job, however with so many parents juggling their working day with the needs of multiple children, 2 laptops and a dog that needs walking (and that’s before lunch!) practical support is the only way forward.

We have honed our lockdown learning support over the past twelve months and can offer highly focused curriculum-led learning, with qualified teachers who really understand the pressures your children are facing. We have over 250 top notch tutors supporting children at 7+, 11+, GCSE & A level (and everyone in between) and we have been truly inspired by their outstanding commitment and energy – fully understanding the task ahead of them.

For Primary School Children Needing Support:

We are running small group lessons structured around literacy and numeracy as per the National Curriculum, to help your child stay on track. Lessons are available every day, meaning parents can get on with their own work knowing that their children are receiving at least one live lesson and close attention from a teacher every day. We tutor groups of 4-6 children with the same goals.

Individual Support for Families

Many families are requesting a tutor visit them each day to ensure that homeschooling is supported for all the children in the family. Tutors typically attend for three hours, say from 9am until 12pm, and help children complete their daily tasks and upload work to their school platforms, leaving parents free to get a good morning’s work.

For 7+ and 11+ School Entrance Support

We are entrance exam specialists, with over 40 years’ experience helping children with their 7+ and 11+ exams. Our institutional knowledge will support you to make the right decision. Children hoping to sit for 11+ in January 2022 simply cannot afford to miss this term’s learning progress, and we have a full program in place to support them. This includes 1:1 and group tuition, holiday courses and mock exams. At this stage in an 11+ journey, we would be encouraging children to consolidate their Maths and English skills and check they are familiar with the whole 11+ syllabus, including Year 6 numeracy and literacy skills, and regular practice Reasoning skills.

GCSE and A Level Support

With news that 2021 students will be awarded their grades this year based on their teachers’ assessments. We have many specialist subject tutors with a record of accomplishment in helping children to lift their final grades from their predicted or mock exam grades. Between now and May, this will mean lots of opportunities to show what they can do. Their presentation and writing skills need to be as good as possible as soon as possible so that teachers can support the grades they wish to award them with evidence. Analysis, essay technique and topic consolidation will be key, and our grade lifting tutors can really improve the higher order skills required for this.
